Do you struggle with the doing of it? | Stacy Hudson

The reality of my situation right now is that I am watching our baby girl squirm on the baby monitor and I am trying to write this blog before she wakes up! Because once she wakes up… well life happens and I have not figured out yet how to master writing this blog as well as take care of a 6 month old. :/ Working on that!
Back to business… God’s business of course…. I attend an amazing Ladies Bible study. I went last night and God never disappoints. We are doing Beth Moore’s study called Living Beyond Yourself. If you haven’t heard of her… look her up… amazing stuff!
Well last night she hit hard about our calling and got us all thinking and praying. I wrote just last week that “God has called me to write.” So I already knew my calling but I struggle with the doing of it. Another thing we talked about last night was to be sure to allow God to fill us up so that we are able to pour out. I think that is the best thing we can do for our marriages. If we are not full of God then we are probably full of ourselves! I know for my husband that it’s best I am full of God! I am trying to figure out ways to be better at “the doing of it.” I think that starts with the basics. I need to take time and let God fill me up so that I am able to pour out! If I am empty (not full of God)… just like a cup… I can go to pour our but no God will come out!
I think most of us as wives, moms, and really just as women… we tend to take care of others before ourselves. I am learning that that actually hurts everyone. A simple way to think about it that I try to remember is… think of yourself as a car. So many ways to look at this but here are a few:
- A car needs gas to go… we need to be filled up by God and His Holy Spirit in order to GO! What good is a life lived “running on fumes”???
- Consider a car parked out in the sun and the elements… it gets beat up by wind, rain, tree branches, and lets face it bird poop! Park the car in the garage and it is protected… let God be your garage! Rest in his wings and let Him protect you from the enemy who is after your joy, peace, and very much so after your calling.
- The tires on a car are very important right?
… Every now and then we are supposed to test them and make sure they are at the right tire pressure… otherwise a flat tire is in your future! What good is a car with a flat tire?!? What happens if you drive on a flat? The ride is bumpy and not comfortable. You also end up damaging your car because it was not designed to be used like that. Ever feel like your life is bumpy and not comfortable?! Think about those traveling with you (spouse, kids, friends, family, etc.) as well… they feel all the bumps too! Is it possible you are living life on a flat… take a minute… pull over…. pull out The Word and let God fill you up.
- Ever seen a car caked in mud and dirt? And being that I live in south Louisiana I have to ask… Ever seen a car caked in mud and dirt and it wasn’t on purpose?! I am sure the driver was very busy and hadn’t taken the time to clean it. Anyone who knows me knows I am not a girly girl or that big on wearing makeup… however… I do know that it makes a difference in how I feel when I take care of myself. Honestly, right now in my life, sometimes I have to leave the crying baby in her jumper for 5 minutes while I go take a quick shower! BUT, it is amazing how much better I feel getting all that “mud and dirt” off of me! And I am able to be a better mom when I take care of myself. I also know that, while my husband thinks I’m beautiful (Thank God I know that!), he also appreciates when I take the time to fix my hair and put on some makeup. I think it makes him feel nice that I took the time to look nicer for him. No, I don’t walk around the house in a 50’s era dress holding the baby and cooking dinner barefoot! haha… but I think you get what I mean!
Those are just some of my thoughts on this… God can give you many more analogies if you let him. Spend 5 minutes with Him today and ask Him how you are taking care of you car (YOU!) … and examine your tires and and if you are running on fumes… and if you are covered in mud and dirt…. let Him wash you in His Word!
And if you struggle with the doing of it… ask a friend to help you… hold each other accountable to read His word daily. And hey… 5 minutes a day is better than nothing right?! Don’t let the devil lie to you and tell you that 5 minutes won’t make a difference…. he is telling you that because he knows it will.
Thank you for reading!
